Biography

“Navigating the complex and intimidating healthcare legal world can be very frustrating particularly to health care organizations that need to be able to rely on timely expert legal advice.”

With eighteen years of experience including being Regional Chair of the Consent and Capacity Board, Julie has both an understanding of her clients’ needs as well as the decision-making process of Boards and Tribunals and Courts.

Julie regularly appears before the Consent and Capacity Board, Ontario Review Board, and Ontario Courts on many legal issues relating to mental health and healthcare consent.

As the law evolves with respect to mental health, consent and capacity and many other issues relating to health care, it is important for health care organizations to know that they can contact Julie or the firm and receive immediate legal assistance with the knowledge that they are dealing with experts in the field.

Julie has written an introduction to the Law Governing Physicians (three editions) and contributed to a Practical Guide to Mental Health, Capacity and Consent Law of Ontario (second edition). Additionally, Julie has provided educational seminars in health-focused organizations.

Over the years Julie has volunteered for a wide variety of community groups particularly in the health care field including:

  • Health, Illness in Society, a subject development group at Western University; Canadian Cancer Society
  • Canadian Diabetes Association
  • Heart and Stroke Foundation

On a personal note, Julie and her husband have three children who enjoy travelling, and playing sports. Julie particularly enjoys sewing and playing the piano.
