The summer experience is designed to provide incoming students with exposure to all of the practice areas we service and, as a result, summer students will have the opportunity to explore their interests and develop their skills in a number of practice areas.
McKenzie Lake hires four to five law students to participate in the summer experience, which runs from May through August.
2025 Summer Experience Timeline:
- APPLICATION DEADLINE – Monday, January 20, 2025 by 5:00 p.m.
- CALL DAY – Thursday, January 30, 2025 starting at 8:00 a.m.
- INTERVIEWS – Monday, February 10, 2025 to Wednesday, February 12, 2025.
- OFFERS – Thursday, February 13, 2025 at 8:00 a.m.

What We Look For

Compensation
For the 2025 term, Summer students will receive a weekly salary of $800.00.
Training and Professional Development
We are committed to the ongoing professional development of our students. During your first week at the firm, you will participate in an extensive orientation program comprised of technical and systems training, working lunches with lawyers from each practice group, and introductory seminars focusing on file management, docketing, client communication, court processes, oral advocacy and legal research and writing. You will also be introduced to your mentors, a junior and a senior lawyer who will be available to you throughout your summer experience and who will provide guidance on practice-related matters.
Other Experiences
In addition to rewarding legal work, we believe in providing students with a well-rounded experience and, therefore, students will also have the opportunity to attend:
- firm sponsored and/or charitable events;
- client events and business development meetings, and;
- firm gatherings and socials.
